Hamilton-based developer Banks Developments and West Lothian’s leading waste recycling company Scotwaste are set to put forward a joint proposal for a development, which would be situated on our land at the Pond Industrial Estate, around two kilometres South-west of Bathgate, which the companies co-own.
Phase one of the scheme would involve the construction of two buildings – the centre’s Waste Receivals Hall and Mechanical Separation & Sorting Hall.
And if plans are approved, the facility would eventually include a range of the most advanced recycling technologies available on the market.
A detailed planning application for the full waste management facility will be submitted in due course and a full community consultation process including exhibitions will be carried out in advance of the submission, to ensure local people are able to find out as much as possible about the rationale for and details of the plan.

In recognition of the environmental benefits of the services we offer, we received an award for Environmental Achievement.
The Award Ceremony was held at Livingston Football Club on Thursday, 13 March 2003, and we were presented with our trophy and certificate by Mr Robin Harper, MSP for the Green Party and Cllr Lawrence Fitzpatrick, on behalf of West Lothian Council.
This Award is run annually by West Lothian Council in association with The Business Environmental Partnership to promote environmental awareness amongst Businesses in our area.
Nothing is wasted at Scotwaste. In conjunction with their skip exporting business, Scotwaste ship unwanted children’s toys and bicycles which have been thrown into their skips to El Salvador. Toys and bicycles are loaded onto trucks or shipping containers and sent free to under-privileged youngsters.
Toys are distributed to the poorest members of society. On an earlier visit to El Savador, Stewart Melrose Jr met parents of children who have benefited from the project. The gratitude and sincerity of the thanks for the toys and bikes that people in Britain did not want was very moving and proves that this is a very worth while exercise.
